Expert Settings
Expert settings should only be used by knowledgeable experts. Incorrect settings can render networks unusable.
The expert settings are available in Setup mode and allow you to activate advanced settings, which include parameter settings at the Bluetooth® Mesh level. These settings are intended exclusively for experts who are familiar with the subject matter.
Activate expert settings
App version: 2.2
To enable Expert Settings, navigate to Settings, then tap on "Expert Settings", and finally toggle on the Enable Expert Settings option.
Global parameter settings
The global parameter settings allow you to configure the Bluetooth® Mesh network behavior at a low level. These settings affect how messages are transmitted and forwarded throughout the network.
Network parameter preset
The network parameter preset allows you to select predefined configurations for your mesh network. These presets are optimized for different use cases:
- Default: Default settings for most residential installations
- Small: Optimized for small networks with few devices with a compact topology
Outgoing message count
This parameter controls how many times a message is sent when transmitting to the network. Higher values increase reliability but also increase network traffic and power consumption.
Recommended values:
- 1-2: For simple networks with few devices
- 3-4: For standard residential installations
- 5-6: For complex networks or areas with interference
Increasing this value beyond 6 typically provides diminishing returns and may cause network congestion.
Outgoing message delay
The outgoing message delay determines the time interval between multiple transmissions of the same message. This helps prevent message collisions and improves network reliability.
Settings:
- 10ms: Fast response, higher collision risk
- 50ms: Balanced performance (recommended)
- 100ms: Slower response, lower collision risk
- 200ms: Maximum reliability, slower operation
Forwarded message count
This setting controls how many times a message is forwarded by relay nodes in the network. Higher values extend the network range but increase power consumption and network traffic.
Recommended settings:
- 2-3: For small networks (up to 20 devices)
- 4-5: For medium networks (20-50 devices)
- 6-7: For large networks (50+ devices)
Values above 7 can cause network flooding and should only be used in very large installations.
Forwarded message delay
The forwarded message delay controls the time interval between message forwarding attempts. This prevents network congestion and improves overall performance.
Available options:
- 10ms: Fast forwarding, higher congestion risk
- 30ms: Standard forwarding (recommended)
- 50ms: Conservative forwarding
- 100ms: Maximum spacing between forwards
Publish time client
The publish time client setting controls how frequently time synchronization messages are sent to the network. This ensures all devices maintain accurate time for scheduling and logging functions.
Settings:
- Disabled: No time synchronization
- Every 6 hours: Standard synchronization
- Every 12 hours: Reduced network traffic
- Every 24 hours: Minimal traffic, less accurate time
Time client publish ttl
The Time-to-Live (TTL) value for time synchronization messages determines how far these messages travel through the network. Higher values ensure time sync reaches all devices but increase network load.
Recommended values:
- 3-4: For small networks
- 5-6: For medium networks (recommended)
- 7-8: For large networks
Enable WiFi option
The WiFi option allows you to enable or disable WiFi connectivity for Connect Gateway setup. Keep in mind that this option is not recommended. If possible always use an ethernet connection.
Reset devices via app
This feature allows you to reset mesh devices directly from the app without physical access. This is useful for:
- Troubleshooting: Reset devices that are not responding
- Network reconfiguration: Remove devices from the network
- Factory reset: Return devices to their original state
Resetting a device will remove it from the network and delete all its configuration. The device will need to be re-added to the network.
Update mode via app
Update mode allows you to control how firmware updates are applied to devices in your network. Options include:
- Automatic: Updates are applied automatically when available
- Manual: Updates require manual approval before installation
- Scheduled: Updates are applied at specific times
- Disabled: No automatic updates
Automatic updates ensure your devices always have the latest features and security patches.
Manually update devices
This section allows you to manually trigger firmware updates for specific devices or the entire network. You can:
- Check for updates: Scan for available firmware updates
- Update individual devices: Update specific devices
- Update all devices: Update the entire network at once
- View update history: See which devices have been updated
Manual updates may take several minutes and should be performed when the network is not in active use.
Current provisioner address
The provisioner address is a unique identifier for your app instance in the mesh network. This address is used for:
- Network identification: Distinguishes your app from other provisioners
- Message routing: Ensures messages are sent to the correct destination
- Security: Part of the network's security framework
The provisioner address is automatically assigned and should not be changed unless you're experiencing network conflicts.
Reset the app
The app reset function allows you to completely reset the Connect Mesh app to its factory settings. This will:
- Clear all networks: Remove all configured networks
- Delete device data: Remove all device configurations
- Reset preferences: Return to default app settings
- Clear cache: Remove all cached data
This action cannot be undone. All your network configurations and device settings will be permanently lost. Make sure to create backups before proceeding.
To reset the app:
- Navigate to Expert Settings
- Scroll to the bottom of the page
- Tap "Reset App"
- Confirm the action by entering "RESET"
- Wait for the app to restart
