EasyPairing

Firmware-Version: 5.1.10

EasyPairing can be used to setup a simple mesh installation without using the Connect Mesh App. Devices that are shipped with a compatible firmware are denoted on the devices packaging by the following tag.

Setup

Requirements

Creating an EasyPairing network

Follow the steps below to set up your devices:

  1. Activate easy pairing mode on provisioner device

Press the reset button on the provisioner shortly.
  2. EasyPairing process

This will initialize a scan for all available devices and the provisioner will start adding them to the network one by one. The status LED of the provisioner will flash fast whenever a device is provisioned.
  3. End of EasyPairing process

When no more devices are found for 60 seconds, the provisioner will stop the EasyPairing procedure. The procedure may also be stopped manually by pressing the reset button shortly.

Extending an EasyPairing network

The EasyPairing process can be restarted to provision additional devices by pressing the reset button again on the provisioner. While additional controllers (e.g. a second remote control) may also be added to the network, only the original provisioner can be used for adding additional devices.

Participants

Provisioner

A provisioner is a control device that acts as the network coordinator during the setup process. These devices are equipped with a physical reset button and have the capability to create and manage mesh networks. Only the original provisioner that created the network can add new devices later. While other controllers can join the network as secondary devices, they cannot take over the provisioner role for adding new devices.

Key characteristics

  • Creates and manages the mesh network infrastructure
  • Scans for available devices in range
  • Assigns network roles and configurations to new devices
  • Maintains unique network identification
  • Stores essential network parameters

Provisioner devices

Provisionees

Provisionees are devices that can be added to the mesh network by a provisioner. These devices form the functional components of your lighting system and can be controlled once they are part of the network. Each provisionee enters an unprovisioned state when first powered up, indicated by a continuously flashing status LED. In this state, the device is ready to be discovered and added to a network by a provisioner. Once provisioned, these devices automatically integrate into the mesh network, enabling seamless communication and control between all network participants.

Provisionee devices

  • Lights

    info

6-Channel Mesh Boxes are configured by all provisioners to have six mono lights attached. This can be overridden by using a RC as provisioner when using EasyPairing Plus.

    • Mono lights
    • Tunable white lights
    • Color lights
  • Additional Controllers

    • Remote Control
    • Remote Control Eco
    • Furniture Switch
    • Wall Switch
    • Motion Sensor

Control functions

The control behavior of devices is determined by the last device type added to the network by the provisioner. This setting is copied to any new controller when it joins the network.

tip

For the Remote Control (RC), these settings are saved per channel. See EasyPairing Plus for details.

      • Up/Down: Brightness control
    • Tunable white/Color lights:
      • Left/Right: Temperature/Color control depending on last added device

The remote behaves the same as the Remote Eco but has additional functionality as described in EasyPairing Plus. For detailed information about the Remote Control, see the Remote Control documentation.

Furniture Switch

  • Control wheel for on/off and dimming
  • Behavior matches Remote Control Eco without scene functionality
  • Behavior based on connected light type:
    • Mono lights:
      • Center button: On/Off (long press for Off)
      • Up/Down: Brightness control
    • Tunable white/Color lights:
      • Left/Right: Temperature/Color control depending on last added device

Wall Switch

  • Four buttons (1-4)
  • Behavior based on connected light type:
    • Mono lights:
      • Button 1: On/Dim Up
      • Button 4: Off/Dim Down
    • Tunable white/Color lights:
      • Button 2: Temperature Up/Color Up
      • Button 3: Temperature Down/Color Down

Kinetic BLE Switches

  • Button behavior determined by the device type active when linked
  • With tunable white devices: Controls color temperature
  • With RGB devices: Controls color
  • Configuration remains fixed after linking

Motion Sensor

  • Simple On/Off control for all connected devices
  • Triggers all lights when motion is detected

Kinetic BLE Switches

In conjunction to the easy pairing process, you can pair Kinetic BLE switches with each lighting device, e.g. Mesh Boxes.

Pairing procedure

The procedure is similar to the EasyPairing process and can be repeated for up to ten devices:

  1. Activate kinetic pairing mode on lighting device

Shortly press the reset button on the lighting device which itself should already be part of an EasyPairing network or in factory state (i.e. unprovisioned) if you do not intend to add the lighting device to an EasyPairing network. The status led will continously flash slowly to indicate pairing mode is active. You will not be able to add a lighting device to an EasyPairing network anymore, once kinetic pairing mode has been activated on a device without resetting it to factory state.

  2. Activate commissioning mode on Kinetic BLE Switch

Activate the commissioning procedure as described in the user manual of your Kinetic BLE switch. Attention: In any case use the top-left button on 4-way rocker switches or the top button on 2-way rocker switches to make sure the device orientation is correctly detected.

  3. Acknowledgement

The lighting device will acknowledge successful commissioning by flashing its status LED and lights. The kinetic pairing mode will automatically stop afterwards.

  4. Deactivate commissioning mode on Kinetic BLE Switch

Deactivate commissioning mode on kinetic switch as described in the user manual of your Kinetic BLE switch. Attention: In any case use the bottom-left button on 4-way rocker switches or the bottom button on 2-way rocker switches to make sure the device orientation is correctly detected.

Unpairing all paired devices

You can unpair all devices which are currently paired with a specific lighting device by pressing and holding the reset button for more than four seconds. Attention: Do not press the button for more than eight seconds as this will reset the lighting device itself to factory state as well.

EasyPairing Plus

When using the Remote Control as a provisioner you can have additional functionality. You will optionally be able to select a channel and select the types of lights connected to 6-Channel Mesh Boxes. Both selections my be made right after starting the easy pairing mode, while the Remote Control is blinking fast for the first time.

Channel selection

You can optionally select a channel with the channel selection buttons on the top of the Remote Control. By default, the first channel will be used if no selection is made. All subsequently provisioned devices will then be grouped into the selected channel. Control devices in a channel will only control other devices which are in the same channel, except for additional Remote Controls which will have the same channel assignments as the provisioner.

6-Channel Mesh Box configuration

If you are going to provision 6-Channel Mesh Boxes you may additionally change the port configuration by pressing one of the scene buttons A, B or C:

  • A. (Default) Will set up all 6 ports with mono devices.

  • B. Will set up three tunable lights on ports 1 & 2, 3 & 4 and 5 & 6 respectively.

  • C. Will set up two RGB lights on ports 1 & 2 & 3 and 4 & 5 & 6 respectively.

Importing an EasyPairing network

In order to facilitate more complex setups, users can import networks that were set up using EasyPairing into the Connect Mesh App. To do this import a network and choose "Import Easy Pairing". This will scan for possible provisioners to import the network from. You might have to wake up the device in order for it to show up. After selecting your provisioner, the EasyPairing network import will start. This process will reset the provisioner and reprovision it within the Connect Mesh App in order to read out the network. After reading out the network, the provisioner will be reset again and added back to imported network and configured to control the devices as it was set up in EasyPairing mode. Once the import of an EasyPairing network has started, the provisioner can no longer be used to set up additional devices. Any further modifications to the network will have to be done through the Connect Mesh App.
