How do I connect to Amazon Alexa?

Connect Mesh Cloud User Account

In order to link your own Bluetooth® Mesh network with cloud services, a Connect Cloud account is absolutely necessary. A user account can be created directly from the app and only requires a valid email address and a self-defined password. Once the user account has been created, a confirmation email will be sent to the specified email address, which must be activated by a confirmation link. When the Gateway is successfully configured with your account, the left status LED of the gateway now lights up permanently.

Preparation

note

Before proceeding with the Amazon Alexa linkage, make sure you have already added and configured all mesh devices to the mesh network. Also make sure that the naming of the devices is already correct, as the same names will appear in the Alexa app after the connection with Alexa.

If you have at least one Amazon Echo device and a Connect Mesh Gateway, you can link them to control your Connect Mesh devices via voice control. Currently, only actuators are supported. Bluetooth® Mesh switches and sensors can not yet be used to control Amazon Alexa-capable smart home devices.

Activate the Alexa skill

After the successful creation of a Connect Mesh Cloud user account, a link between your Amazon Echo account and your Connect Mesh account must now be established. Follow these steps:

  1. Go to the Gateway device screen or open up the Gateway in the app settings.
  2. Tap "Link Alexa Skill".
  3. You will be redirected to the Alexa app or website.
  4. Log in to your Amazon account and be sure to use the same account you registered your Amazon Echo devices with.
  5. Link the "Häfele Connect Mesh" skill with Alexa.

Control your devices via Alexa voice commands

After a successful link, your mesh devices will appear individually in the Amazon Echo app. You can now control them via voice commands or from the Alexa app (even while on the go). It makes sense to group several devices in the Alexa app. These can also include smart home devices from other manufacturers. You can now control these groups with your voice. For example, the following voice commands can be used:

  • “Alexa, turn on/off all lights”

  • “Alexa, turn on the kitchen lighting”

  • “Alexa, dim all lights to 50%”

  • “Alexa, make it cozy” (A "cozy" routine must be created beforehand. Routines are similar to scenes in Bluetooth® Mesh)

  • “Alexa, change the color temperature of all lights to warm”

  • Additional voice commands can be determined using the Amazon Echo Help.

note

When controlling many devices in an Amazon Alexa group, a delay in the devices actuation is normal. This happens because each device is controlled individually by Alexa. In the future, there will be the possibility to also release mesh groups for Alexa control as "virtual devices", so that all mesh devices of this group can be controlled synchronously.
