How do I configure a Kinetic Switch?

Add a Kinetic Device

Kinetic devices must communicate with the network via a parent device. For this reason, the setup process differs slightly from the general process for other devices.

Follow these steps to add a kinetic device to your network:

  1. Switch to 'Setup mode'
  2. Go to the 'Devices' tab and press 'Add'
  3. On the bottom of the "Add device" screen press 'Add Kinetic Switch Device'
  4. Select the device to add from the list
  5. Give the device a name
  6. Select a room
  7. Select an available parent device
  8. Parent device is reconfigured
  9. Pair kinetic device with parent device via QR code scan or teach-in mode
  10. Select orientation of the device

Parent device

Any mains-powered Häfele Connect Mesh device can function as a parent device for a kinetic switch or sensor. Parent devices communicate directly with child devices and forward their messages to the other members of the Bluetooth® Mesh network. Only one kinetic device can be added at a time. If you wish to assign a different child device, ensure that you first remove the previous one.

Pairing a Kinetic Device

After the parent device was successfully configured and the kinetic device was added as a child the energy-harvesting device has to be paired. Therefore you have two options:

Scan QR code

Scan the physical QR code on the kinetic device to pair it with the parent device.

Teach-in mode

Alternatively you can pair the kinetic device via the teach-in mode. Therefore follow the instructions shown on the app. The process differs between different device types. As an example this is how a kinetic switch can be added:

  • Press the upper left button repeatedly in the following order:
    • Press down for 10 seconds
    • Release for 1 second

Device orientation

Once a device has been paired with its parent you are asked to set the device's orientation by holding one of the buttons. You can change the orientation via the contextual menu of the kinetic device in the upper right corner.

Connect a Kinetic Switch

Once a Kinetic Switch has been added to the network, it must be connected to a target in order to control it, just like all the other control devices.

Quick setup

All switches can be connected via the 'Quick setup' shortcut. This process connects the device to a selected target and configures all buttons and gestures based on a unified default behaviour for all screens.

  1. Open the Wall Switch device screen.
  2. Press the 'Quick Setup' button at the bottom of the screen.
  3. Select the control target you want to connect to (room, group, or devices).
  4. Select the controllable unit and press 'Save'.

Remove connection

To remove a connection between a Kinetic Switch and a controlled target, follow these steps:

  1. Select the configured control target (e.g. Living Room).
  2. The 'Connection' menu will open, allowing you to change the target.
  3. Select 'Nothing' to disconnect from the current target.

If you want to reset all buttons, you have to repeat this for all buttons on the device.
